Connecting Up Australia (formerly CISA) is a nonprofit organisation that works to strengthen the nonprofit and community sector in Australia by providing information, products, resources and programs.

Christmas pageants and parades

If you are hosting Christmas events and want to publicise them to the wider community, please list them on one or more of the free community events websites listed below. This will help people using web search engines to find out about them.

We are compiling a list of  pageants and other Christmas events. This will be expanded on SAcommunity as more events come to our notice. Please pass on relevant details to us and check SAcommunity for updates.

Local government elections

Ballot papers for SA local council elections have now been mailed to every elector.  If you haven't received yours call the Electoral Commission of South Australia on 1300 655 232. To make your vote valid, number each box, one, two, three etc, at least for the number of candidates to be elected.  Remember to return your ballot papers in the envelope provided by Friday 12 November. If you need a reminder the Electoral Commission can send you an SMS.  Register at  www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/remindme

News from the SA Community sector

New aged care services are now operating in SA. Community Voices Program, a program from the Office for Volunteers, provides an opportunity for community groups to work with Flinders University Screen Studies students to promote their organisation. For details of eligibility and how to apply visit the website

A counselling service is now available for Australians who have experieced violence. 1800 RESPECT is a confidential service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, over the phone. Australians can access the line by calling 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). The service gives callers access to qualified and specialist counsellors who will provide counselling, information, advice, and referrals, free of charge.

Wetland Australia National Art & Photography Competition 2011

To celebrate World Wetlands Day 2011, WetlandCare Australia is again launching an Australia-wide Art and Photography competition offering categories for children and adults.  WetlandCare Australia are seeking artworks exploring the theme of Forested Wetlands: their importance and wise use. Entries close December 3 2010.  Entry forms are available at www.wetlandcare.com.au

Resthaven is an aged care community service agency of the Uniting Church in Australia that supports over 7000 older people and their carers across South Australia. Resthaven’s support services include early intervention, health education and information, therapy and allied health services, home care, personal care, community nursing, residential aged care and independent living accommodation and volunteer program.

Chicken &  Chickpea Curry - serves 4 people

Ingredients
1 BBQ chicken (you will need 1 cup of  meat without skin - use the remaining chicken for another meal)
1 can chickpeas
1 can tomatoes
1 onion, chopped
1 capsicum, sliced into strips
1 can light coconut milk
1 tsp crushed garlic
1 tsp grated ginger
1 cup coriander, chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 Tbs oil

Method
Cook garlic and onion together in oil until clear. Add all other ingredients and cook for 15 minutes. Serve with basmati rice

Community Foodies is a South Australian nutrition program that aims to build the capacity of communities to make healthier food choices by training and supporting volunteer community members (Foodies) to act as agents for change.

DonorTec is a program run by Connecting Up Australia. It provides donated and discounted technology products and services from companies such as Microsoft, Symantec, Sophos and Cisco to eligible income tax exempt (ITE) Australian nonprofit groups. Via this program nonprofits can access the latest technology via donations or generous discounts. www.donortec.org
