The latest edition to the Connecting Up program family is finally here!
The Connecting Up Directory: Australian Nonprofits and Charity Organisations is live! We launched our latest project with friends and supporters in Sydney on Friday 2 December 2011.
Senator Ursula Stephens officated at the launch with contributions as well from Professor Peter Shergold, CEO of the Centre for Social Impact and staff of Connecting Up. Many representatives from nonprofits were present to mark this significant event that opens up a new era for engagement, communication, transparency and accountability within the sector and with other stakeholders.
As Les Hems, CSI’s Director of Research said, 'Connecting Up has demonstrated strong leadership in establishing the Australian online directory of not-for-profit organisations. The Connecting Up Directory will become an essential part of the infrastructure of the not-for-profit sector and it brings Australia in line with other comparable countries.
'The benefits will be considerable,' Les said. 'I urge all nonprofits and charities to support this initiative and take the opportunity to provide the Directory information online. I would also like to encourage other agencies to promote the Directory to the millions of Australians who benefit from the products and services provided by Australian not-for-profit and community organisations and also the millions of Australians who volunteer and donate to them.'
Since Friday we have seen an encouraging level of activity in the directory with many people searching for their organisation's listing and registering so that they can maintain it directly on the site. We have also welcomed many enquiries from people from the business and corporate sectors who are interested to know more about nonprofits and charities and how they can identify those that they would like to support and learn more about.
We ask all our nonprofit friends to join us in this endeavour to provide comprehensive and current information about the great work we do all around Australia so that we can benefit from greater recognition, improve our effectiveness and make Australia a better place to live!
