Largs Bay Ladies Probus Club

From all accounts, the Largs Bay Ladies Probus Club is not your conventional club! We spoke to Secretary Erica Parham to find out more about their activities. The club is always looking for new members for their next adventure and from all accounts, it sounds like great fun.

We heard about all sorts of expeditions that occur, from a horseradish farm excursion and nighttime trips to see the Christmas lights amongst other occasional journeys. At other times, the group have hosted an array of interesting speakers and held games days at their meetings at the RSL hall.

Sound Interesting? We definitely thought so and asked Ms Parham to share their activities with us.

LARGS BAY LADIES PROBUS, INC.

Probus Clubs are a spin off of Rotary Clubs, as not for profit social groups catering for semi retired and retired people who would like to have an interest and company in their lives.

The Largs Bay Ladies Probus Club was formed 29 years ago and although has met at different venues over the years, has now been ensconced at the R.S.L. Club Hall at 17 Carnarvon Terrace, Largs North for many years, where we have ample parking available and also the convenience of both a bus stop and train station.

Our Club meets at 10 a.m. on the third Friday of each month at the R.S.L. Here we enjoy morning tea, a meeting and then either an interesting speaker, musical entertainment or some other fun activity involving all of our members who partake in all sorts of quizzes, games and just sometimes, go back to our childhood when we could have fun playing board games, having a teddy bears picnic, or a mad hatter’s tea party.

We also have many day-time outings visiting interesting places, such as historic houses, the Tramway Museum at St. Kilda, Ronald McDonald House to name a few.  We have the use of a mini bus and a very careful driver who has been with us for many years.

Our theatre nights, to the Arts Theatre or Tower Arts theatre are catered for also, with our bus driver picking up each member from her home and returning each of us to our homes after our outing, so our nights are a safe outing for our ladies who would otherwise not go out at night.

On the second Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. between our Monthly meetings, we have a casual coffee morning for whoever is free and feels like a coffee and a laugh, this is held at a café at North Haven. A group also takes the opportunity to enjoy the local hotels or cafés for lunch following our monthly meetings.

Largs Bay Ladies Probus Club Members warmly welcome visitors to come and experience a meeting and enjoy our motto of Fun, Friendship and Fellowship.
