Newroz Festival 2018 - New Year Festival

Newroz Festival - Kurdish New Year Festival

Saturday 24th March at 4pm at Modbury Civic Park, 995 North East Road, Modbury 5092

More than 4,000 people are expected to descend to Modbury’s Civic Park on Saturday the 24th of March to experience the 2018 Adelaide Kurdish Youth Society Newroz Festival

The largest Newroz Festival in Australia, now in its 6th year, provides members of the community from all backgrounds with an opportunity to experience Kurdish culture, music, dancing and food in a family-friendly atmosphere for free.

Having previously been nominated for ‘The Most Outstanding Community Event’ by the Adelaide City Council in 2015, we are extremely excited for what we have in store this year.

The Festival, sponsored by local businesses, will be held at the front of Civic Park with live entertainment, lots of amusement rides for adults and children, great selection of traditional food, sweets, activities and fireworks!

The Festival begins at 4PM on Saturday night and the program showcases and celebrates Kurdish culture and heritage within South Australia’s broader multicultural context. Expect a night of traditional Kurdish food, sweets and drinks, countless hours of live music and dancing all the way into the night! The official ceremony will begin at 6.30PM with an indigenous smoke ceremony and welcome to country followed by an official lighting of the Newroz bonfire at 7.20PM with fireworks at 9.45PM.

The bonfire will continue to burn throughout the night as guests dance around the flames and celebrate the coming of a year gone and another year to come.
