Services
- Promoting optimal child health, development and emotional wellbeing for infants and children. The following areas are focused on: health and developmental checks, breastfeeding, feeding, infant mental health, sleep, growth and developmental screening, nutrition, vision, child safety
- hearing, dental and health promotion.
- Support with parental, child-caregiver, extended family and kinship relationships.
- Support for caregivers especially in the areas of promoting a nurturing family environment, settling, parenting together, supporting child behaviour, caregiver mental and emotional health, caregiver physical health and parenting practices.
- First consultation with a Child and Family Health nurse available following the birth of a baby. Nurses able to visit in home or consultation can be at clinic. Nurse will respond to parent's and baby's needs, assess the growth and health of the baby, offer parenting information and guidance, provide information about relevant community services and supports and arrange follow-up care if needed.
- Consultations for parents requiring support with their baby
- Early Parenting Groups - child development and health issues are explored in groups that inform new parents, assist them to gain support and establish networks
- Aboriginal Cultural Child and Family Support Consultants (ACCFSCs) and Aboriginal clinical leaders across the state to support parents/carers of Aboriginal identified infants and contribute to improving the health, development and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal children
- Support for multicultural families - CaFHS works with other agencies to help newly arrived families be aware of the support available to them with interpreters available.
- Newborn Hearing Assessment
- Parent Helpline - Providing information and support over the telephone to parents and carers of children between 0-5 years
- Residential service at Torrens House providing intensive support for all families with babies aged up to 12 months for unresolved feeding, settling and sleeping issues. Virtual stay also available via Telehealth for additional support with their baby.
- Self-weigh facilities are available at a number of CaFHS locations, to allow families to weigh and measure their infant without a nurse.
