Grassroots Grants: $1 million to support environmental projects in various metropolitan council districts in Adelaide

Green Adelaide is launching its annual Grassroots Grant Program to support individuals, volunteers, community groups, schools and other bodies to deliver local environmental projects that contribute to 'green, cool and wild their neighbourhoods,' across Adelaide's 17 metropolitan council districts with Round 4 funding now open.

In 2023-24 there is $1 million in total funding available to support these environmental projects driven by the local community, with grants ranging from a minimum of $2,000 to a maximum of $150,000.

Green Adelaide Presiding Member Chris Daniels encouraged members of the community to add to this ripple of change by applying for funding for their own projects.

"Grassroots Grants is exactly that. It's a program designed to put much needed funds into the hands of individuals and groups to enable on-ground actions for our environment." Professor Daniels said.

"We know that we all have a role to play in order to make meaningful change. That is why these grants are not just for dedicated environmental groups, they are also open to local sports club members looking to promote biodiversity by planting native species around their area, or businesses who wants to diversify their street verges, or community groups who want to remove pest plants from their patch."

“The possibilities are endless, and I am excited to see how our Adelaide community can make the most of this funding opportunity,” Professor Daniels said.

Community groups interested in contributing to the improved management of their local environment can propose project activities such as plantings, nature education, citizen science, weed and pset control, erosion management, community engagement and more.
The development of applications will be supported by grant writing workshops held in April, and applicants will have the chance to develop and refine their project ideas.

The deadline for Grassroots Grants round 4 applications is May 3, 2023. Further details can be found here.
