Dataset ID: Council

Council, State Electorate, Federal Electorate and Dataset ID
Are created to indicate where the service belongs Intern Julia Koh created the following video to indicate how to complete these fields >>here https://youtu.be/jKEIHlm0O6M

Dataset ID
Indicates the council that an organisation/service is operating from.

An organisation/service is listed as operating from only one council, however, one organisation may have physical branches across multiple councils, each branch is given it's own listing/record and allocated to the council it operates in.

For example: Scouts SA has a main branch in Burnside council and then many smaller branches across the state i.e. Scouts SA - Mount Gambier in Mount Gambier council.

In many cases a service is available to all people in South Australia or across several suburbs, i.e. Epilepsy Centre in the Charles Sturt council, regardless a service is allocated to the one council.

Find the Council
Visit: https://www.lga.sa.gov.au/sa-councils/councils-listing and enter the details of the location of the service (Address/Suburb) into the search bar. Once the council has been correctly identified for this listing add this to the record.

Why only one council?
The reason for this is that councils and libraries want to know what services are operating in their council area for communication around community grants, community consultation or networks and partnerships. This allows them to deliver services such as parades, fairs, activities or events, and to encourage their community to participate in the groups, clubs and associations that contribute to community life and build community resilience.

Local Government, Councils, Public libraries, MPs want to be able to email or otherwise contact community groups in their area and they use exports from the SAcommunity database to allow them to communicate with and gain an awareness of services operating in their council. Otherwise councils have to locate services, maintain and update multiple excel spreadsheets within council departments and/or between councils in multiple locations each and every time a department in council wanted to send a relevant email on grants or events to services in their area.

Therefore ensure the organisation/service has the relevant council attached to their record so that the organisation does not miss out on opportunities from the local council that may be of benefit for them.
