Why volunteer or intern?

Our volunteer and interns understand that people, councils, libraries and government make better decisions with accurate information and in connection with the community services they need.

Together our volunteer and intern teams combine an interest in people and community, a knowledge of the social and community services sector, and our information and communication skills, for "the spirit of the chase" - finding and presenting current, accurate and reliable community service information.

What do we do?

We deliver SAcommunity, a community information service, directory, and database for South Australian councils, libraries, government, service providers and the public to help them find services, networks and engage with their community.

We find community service information, contact and support organisations across the state to update their details in our directory database. We promote local community services, activities and events through our capacity building social media channels. We prepare and present search results on our data to assist councils, libraries, government and decision makers understand community needs.

We contact our stakeholders to inform them about SAcommunity services that can assist them, and search for and apply for grants that can assist us provide our service. We contribute to continuous improvement by fostering learning and ideas, and create training and education materials for ourselves and our program in a supportive environment.

What do we offer?

We provide our team with an opportunity to utilise and demonstrate their existing skills and gain practical work experience. Our volunteers can create valuable connections and networks, access tech-based training and education programs, and build their work history in a real-life environment.

All while taking part in meaningful projects that help our community at the same time.
- We also have great coffee!

Who makes our team?

We work with a range of talented volunteers, interns and vocational placements / student placements. We have students, graduates and job seekers looking for experience. People who are retired or near-retirement who want to maintain and utilise their existing skills and perhaps pick up something new. We also work with staff and volunteers in local councils as part of the SAcommunity Council Volunteer Partnership program.

People who want to brush up on their online information searching skills, or who like to talk to other people in the many service organisations across the state, find out their stories and give back to their community.

We work with people in, or interested in, the fields of customer service, business administration, library and information management, media and visual design, content writing and journalism, data analytics and data visualisation, in a collaborative, productive learning space.
