Relay For Life is back in Adelaide!
Relay For Life is a thrilling and exciting overnight event that raises funds for Cancer Council SA. Every year, around 11,000 South Australians are diagnosed with cancer. Come and participate in the relay in May to help raise funds to save more lives, support and celebrate local cancer patients, survivors, and carers in the community, and especially to remember loved ones who have passed away from cancer.
One of South Australia's most unique events, Relay For Life involves various teams participating in a relay throughout the night in order to raise money and awareness for Cancer Council SA. The 19-hour event will have three spectacular ceremonies for the opening, candlelight, and closing, as well as numerous entertainment options all day long.
Cancer Council SA will receive the money raised by the Relay for Life 2023 event for research, vital prevention, and other support services. Furthermore, the money will fund experienced cancer nurses through Cancer Council 13 11 20.
Shona's Story
Shona, one of the cancer survivors last year walked with other cancer survivors and carers during the very first lap at the Relay For Life. This year, for the first time, Shona and her daughters have formed and registered their own team in the Relay For Life event. She considers this to be a particularly remarkable, personal and unique approach to support the cause!
“It makes you proud of your inner strength. You’ve done this thing, or you’re doing this thing, or you’re helping someone do this thing so you should be proud of that. That’s an achievement. “I like that even though there’s different teams, you wouldn’t know because everyone is just kind to everyone – there’s a camaraderie and a quiet respect. It’s just emotional to be part of something like that when you know it’s important to so many people.”
