The South Australia Wooden Boat Festival honours the contributions of Wooden Boats throughout history

Enjoy FREE Access to the 2023 SA Wooden Boat Festival and soak up the community atmosphere. The Festival will honour the significant contributions of Goolwa and Wooden Boats throughout history. Featuring a grand parade and collection of wooden boats on show, including canoes, rowing boats, historic sailing yachts, traditional riverboats, steamboats, model boats, and more!

The 17th South Australian Wooden Boat Festival happens every two years, running in conjunction with the Australian Boat Festival in Hobart, Tasmania. The festival celebrates and promotes the rich maritime history of Goolwa. Goolwa Wharf is the only place in Australia, and one of only two in the world that has a 'steam connection' i.e. you can board both a steam train and a steam paddleboat on the water.

The South Australia Wooden Boat Festival takes place with valued volunteers' help with organising the event, together with community feedback, as well as small businesses vendors and local exhibitors who will be joining us to make the the celebration even more fun!

A host of events and activities including Vintage Tiger Moth Bi-plane Fly by, Live Music, Rough and Ready - Boat building competition and Race, along with Traditional and Vintage Yachts sailing races. Local businesses will be promoting their products as part of a local food and wine experience that shouldn't be missed.

Alexandrina Council thanks its sponsors for their key role they play in supporting these community events such as the South Australia Wooden Boat Festival. Allowing the district to bring people together to commemorate the rich history of Goolwa and Wooden Boats.
