Transport is important to everyone – we all have to be able to get where we need to go! While many of us rely on driving our own car to get around, there are other options that make it possible to leave the car at home. For people who don’t have a car or cannot drive, it is essential to have access to a variety of transport options.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Just about everyone knows about Adelaide Metro, Adelaide's public transport system – follow them on Twitter to get updates and alerts.
Did you know that Adelaide Metro offers some special services to help older people and people with disabilities?
COMMUNITY PASSENGER NETWORKS
People who live in regional and rural areas usually don’t have access to public transport. Community Passenger Networks have been established in 11 areas to provide transport help and information for people who are transport disadvantaged.
REGIONAL BUS SERVICES
Bus SA brings together the regional bus operators as partners in network that provides passenger services to regional South Australia.

LOCAL COUNCIL COMMUNITY BUS SERVICES
Most metropolitan councils offer a community bus service that provides transport for residents who cannot drive to local shops and other facilities such as libraries, seniors clubs. Community bus services often rely on volunteer drivers – contact your council’s volunteer manager or community services manager if you are interested in helping. Some councils can also help with individual transport provided by volunteer drivers.
PATIENT TRANSPORT
The Patient Assistance Transport Scheme is a state government service that provides partial reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs for people who live over 100km from the nearest medical specialist.
CYCLING & WALKING
Adelaide City Bikes Scheme - free bike hire for travel within the City of Adelaide
Bikedirect - a network of bicycle routes identifying main roads, bicycle lanes, local streets and off-road paths in the Adelaide metropolitan area. Maps are available online and from community locations including councils and public libraries
Cycle Instead - a route planning website that uses the Bikedirect maps
South Australian Trails - walking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing, scuba diving
