Heather, Event Coordinator for this years"Chilli Fest Willunga" has contacted SAcommunity with the following information about this "hot" event -
"Chilli Fest fires up Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February 2024 in the Willunga Recreation Park. Whether you’re after something hot and fiery for your tummy, a chilli to plant and how not to kill them, great recipes and cooking demos or simply chilling under the trees sipping our famous sangria and listening to great music – Willunga Chilli Fest has something for you. Chilli Fest’s reputation as the Hottest Event on the Fleurieu has spread and even more traders are coming this year."
There's a long and impressive list of traders, activities and demonstrations
- Over 20 chilli stalls including Adelaide’s The Larder, Edible Academy from Beechworth, White’s Valley Jalapeños, Bali in a Jar, Salt Gang and Willunga’s own Green Gourmet
- Cooking demonstration on stage Andrea, Willunga’s own Green Gourmet, Norma from Whites Valley and Desak from Bali in a Jar will be joined by others on stage to show how it's done
- Buy chilli plants at Chilli Fest from three chilli plant providers – McLaren Vale Garden Supplies, Chilli Affliction and Hillside Herbs and Succulents. If the chilli plant you bought last year has turned up its toes, don’t be shy – ask the experts how to get the best crop in 2024, or, you might sit in on Kym Syrus’s information session at the demo stage Saturday morning.
- Chilli Sauce championship has been expanded to include chilli chutney, chilli jam, chilli paste and chilli oils under the category chilli condiments. Competition convenor Helen Brown said, ‘I’ve been kept busy receiving and registering entries since early December. There are more than 40 sauces and condiments for our judges to sample, and even if I do say so myself – the competition will be HOT!’. Check out the winners over the weekend and talk with the judges about what makes them just right.
- Chilli-inspired products from local artisans to suit every taste, from clothing, jewellery, paper products, kitchen ware and a gorgeous range of Mexican Talavera Pottery – need a gift for the Chilli lover in your life? There are plenty of unique products to choose from.
- Food and beverage vendors including pizza, chicken, tacos, new chilli biscuits, ice-cream and chocolates. Enjoy the Chill Garden's shady trees, listen to local live music and local brews. Shifty Lizard and South Coast Brewing will be joined by DogRidge Wines and our very own Rec Park sangria stall.
Entry to the event is $10 for adults with children under 16 free.
And a final word from Heather "Chilli Fest Willunga is one of the four major fundraising events that supports the Willunga Recreation Park, a facility owned by the community for the community. Funds raised develop and maintain the Rec Park as the premiere local community venue. Thanks for joining us."
