Love Jigsaws? Just for the fun of it? Or ever thought you could be the next SA State Jigsaw Champion?

Great news – The Willunga Jigsaw Mania is on again. It's this weekend and the event is themed around Star Wars.

Sally Scantlebury, Event Coordinator at Willunga Recreation Park has provided the following exciting information to share ...

"South Australian jigsaw puzzle lovers can aim for national recognition in the Willunga Jigsaw Mania competition on Saturday, May the 4th - an apt date to reflect the Star Wars themed event. So, encourage your friends and alien mates to come along to the Willunga Festival Hall and may the force be with you.

Saturday involves teams of four people completing 500-piece puzzles over two hours or 1000 pieces over two and a half hours. The competition continues Sunday May 5th doors open at 9am, the puzzling competitions the pair and solo events will be starting at 10am, with 2.5 hours to complete a brand new 500-piece puzzle.

With appetites whetted by the fun had in Saturday’s teams and Sunday morning pairs, we are encouraging as many puzzlers as possible to have a crack at a different Ravensburger puzzle on their own in the afternoon in the solo competition. How quickly can you complete a 500-piece jigsaw? The mania sets in as the time winds down, with great prizes for the winners in all categories.

The first South Australian to complete the solo 500-piece puzzle will be a SA Champion and go on to represent the state at the national event in Melbourne later in the year. The national winner wins a trip to Spain for the Ravensburger world titles to compete at world level.

The fun and prizes do not stop there. Puzzlers are encouraged to dream up creative team names and don fancy dress. Some past favourites have been UN Peacekeepers, Puzzled Princesses, Puzzling Pandas – you get the picture.

Entry is free and we encourage spectators and storm troopers.

There will be a monster raffle to win each day and a jigsaw puzzle swap to exchange your jigsaw with someone else’s. Plus, new, and second-hand puzzles to buy.

A licenced bar will operate with tea, coffee and catering on site on Sunday. Some entrants like to bring their own ‘brain food,’ and that is fine too. Sat 4th May - All Teams events (doors open 2pm with puzzling starting at 3pm) 500 pieces aimed at people having fun 1000 pieces State of Origin - Battle of Allegiance - aimed at fast puzzlers and for the states to compete for perpetual trophy and glory (currently SA, Vic, Qld - Hopefully WA too represented) Sun 5th Solo event in the morning (doors open at 9am for commencement at 10am) Pairs event in the afternoon. 1:30pm - 5pm"

And a final word from Sally “May the puzzling force be with you”
