Willunga Jigsaw Mania
Get ready for a weekend full of fun, competition, and community spirit at the 8th annual Willunga Jigsaw Mania, happening on the weekend of May 3rd & 4th 2025 – and it just so happens to coincide with this year’s Federal election! While politics may be a puzzle of its own, putting together the perfect jigsaw picture promises to be a much more colourful and engaging experience.
 

Speed puzzling has become an exciting spectator sport, with jaw-dropping skill levels from competitors around the world. What started in Willunga in 2018 with just 22 teams (4 people per team) tackling a 250-piece jigsaw has exploded into a huge event, with over 250 entries expected in 2025. This event is one of several fundraisers for the Willunga Recreation Park, which is community-owned and run by dedicated volunteers.
 

Thanks to the creation of the Australian Jigsaw Puzzle Association, puzzling events are now taking place all over the country, and Australia’s fastest puzzlers are hitting the road to compete while celebrating the fantastic, fun-loving “Jigsaw Community.”
 

And if you think the jigsaw competition is just for fun, think again! The times are seriously impressive. In 2024, the fastest competitors managed to complete:
 

Solo: 22 minutes 20 seconds

Pairs: 25 minutes 20 seconds

Teams of 4: 42 minutes

Teams of 4: 1 hour 2 minutes
 

Willunga Jigsaw Mania 2025 will welcome competitors in three categories: individuals, pairs, and teams of four. On Saturday afternoon, teams will race against the clock in both the 500-piece and 1000-piece competitions. Teams from all over the country will vie for the coveted ‘Team of Allegiance’ trophy, facing the challenge of finishing their 1000-piece puzzle within a two-hour time limit. For those looking for a more relaxed vibe, there’s the 500-piece challenge with a two-hour limit. Plus, 2025 marks the debut of the Interschool Competition as part of the 500-piece Teams event on Saturday afternoon.
 

On Sunday morning, solo competitors will tackle the 500-piece Ravensburger puzzle, with the winner being crowned South Australian State Champion. Up to 30 interstate visitors – including current and past Australian champions (who aren’t eligible for the State title) – will be competing once again.
 

The event wraps up on Sunday afternoon with the Pairs competition, where rivals join forces to showcase their teamwork. There will be plenty of refreshments available on-site, as well as at local cafes, bakeries, and pubs. Whether you're competing or cheering on your friends, make sure to explore the charming town of Willunga.
 

And don’t be surprised if you see competitors in fun, zany costumes! Puzzling Pandas, UN ‘Piece’ Keepers, Purple Puzzlers, and even Buzz Lightyear and Woody have been spotted puzzling their way through Willunga in past events.
 

At Willunga Jigsaw Mania, Rule Number One is simple: Jigsaws are meant to be fun! Even if you don’t finish in the allotted time, don’t worry – you still get to keep your puzzle and can always try again next year.

 

We invite everyone – competitors, spectators, friends, and visitors – to come out and support the event, admire the giant 18,000 and 13,000-piece mounted jigsaws (completed by the Willunga Community in 2021 and 2022), and enjoy the amazing atmosphere of the event
