Christmas hampers and gifts

Connecting Up staff member Karen Vance and her family are helping disadvantaged people this Christmas through programs run by two non-profit organisations in Adelaide.

This year Karen has registered with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden’s  Adopt-a-Family Program that helps families who have experienced extreme hardship or trauma during the past year. The program matches participants with a recipient family and gives some general details about the family such as ages and genders of the recipients, but both parties remain anonymous.

Each year Karen and her sister also help the Smith Family with delivery of Christmas Hampers to families in need.  Karen said ‘We’ve been doing it for years. It’s really well organised. Each family gets a hamper and a bag of toys for the kids. Some families invite us in for a cup of tea’.
