In case you’re wondering Kernewek Lowender means “Cornish Happiness” and that’s what’s promised from Monday 12th May to Sunday 18th May when you visit Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo. This biennial festival celebrates Cornish traditions, culture and heritage of the Cooper Triangle and you're invited!
The streets of the Copper Triangle will be alive with a wonderful array of Cornish events, competitions, food, drink and cultural offerings over 7 days.
There’s a host of events to choose from. Some events such as the Wallaroo Silo Light Show, Moonta Mines Tourist Railway rides, and the Kernewek Lowender Art Collection in Kadina are held over multiple days. Other events such as Cornish Language Lesson for Beginners in Moonta, the Cornish History Seminar in Kadina and the Kernewek Lowender Cup Wallaroo vs Moonta Heritage Football and Netball matches are Single Day Events
Some events are steeped in tradition - Maypole Dancing, Dressing the Graves, the Furry Dance and the Gathering of the Bards others purely to entertain you or feed you…
Yes there’s food! You can make your own pasties at the Traditional Cornish Pasty Making Class, enjoy the Sup and Sing Dinner, Feast or Famine Dinner, go along to cheer on the VIP guests, invited guests and local students in the Apex Pasty Bake-Off, wander off to one of the many, many amazing food and drink offerings around the 3 towns.
The official welcome to the 2025 Kernewek Lowender Copper Coast Cornish Festival is on Friday 16 May starting at 11.15am on the official stage on the Rotunda in Queen Square, George St Moonta. It will Include welcome speeches from the Official Party and feature the Australian and Cornish National Anthems.
