About the Organisation:

Kangaroo Rescue South Australia Incorporated was officially established as a charity in 2020, growing from years of personal experience caring for orphaned kangaroo joeys. After relocating to Uleybury, we saw an opportunity to create a sanctuary where rescued joeys could thrive in a natural setting. From there, our mission expanded to include breeding programs for threatened native species such as Brushtail Bettongs, Fat-Tail Dunnarts, Long-Nosed Potoroos, and Southern Brown Bandicoots species crucial to ecological balance.

As a not-for-profit charity, we focus on the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured and orphaned joeys, while also caring for a range of native macropods. Our secure sanctuary allows us to support wildlife recovery and biodiversity conservation.

To foster education and awareness, we offer guided sunset tours twice a week, giving the public an up-close look at Australia's unique wildlife and ecosystems. Special events, such as opening the sanctuary free of charge during Veterans Week, provide opportunities for community connection and wellbeing through nature.

We're accessible via social media, search engines, and word of mouth, often assisting with wildlife rescue inquiries. When we can't attend personally or the species falls outside our scope, we guide people to the appropriate resources. Our volunteer program, currently at capacity, supports individuals interested in wildlife care and education.

As a registered deductible gift recipient (DGR) charity, we rely on public donations to fund essential care, habitat, and conservation programs for our native animals.

This September, in honour of Biodiversity Month, we're launching a virtual event encouraging people to take environmental action at home or in their communities. Participants are invited to share their efforts online and tag our sanctuary. At month's end, we'll send a commemorative medal in recognition of their support for biodiversity.
