Social entrepreneurs picnic

The Social Entrepreneurs Picnic, held in Adelaide 11 May 2010 by the Australian Centre for Social Innovation, was an opportunity for people to meet and find out about each others' work.

Facilitation was provided by visiting KaosPilot, Bert Meijers and included some great methods such as the fishbowl and world cafe to allow participants to talk, ask questions and share ideas. It really was a picnic as everyone brought food to share and we were encouraged to enjoy the feast throughout the afternoon. Some of the groups represented were Renew Adelaide, Secateurs Community Gardening Group, Food Connect Adelaide, School for Social Entrepreneurs, Tia International Aid, Carpets for Communities, youthinc and others as well.

One of the messages that came through was the need for people working as social entrepreneurs to find each other - use of social media has an important role here and Twitter and blogs were already being used effectively by several people to communicate and connect with others.

The term 'social entrepreneur' was not universally embraced and there were some participants who did not think of themselves in this way, or were surprised to find out that they had been a SE without knowing it!

Look forward to hearing more from TACSI on this topic.

Also look out for the TACSI Blue Sky sessions - next one on 27 May.
