Food on the Table invites you all to Christmas Lunch on Friday 5 December.
On the day you will enjoy a delicious festive 3-course lunch prepared by their talented chef with the option of a generous drinks package (beer, wine, and soft drinks included) or a non-alcoholic option. Along with entry into the major Christmas Raffle you can bid in the Silent Auction, will hear heart-warming stories that show the joy of giving back makes a real difference in someone’s life and enjoy the company of like-minded people in our community.
Can’t make it to lunch? You may like to consider a Pay it Forward Ticket or making a donation – both gratefully accepted by Food on the Table.
Meg, Food on the Table’s Administration Coordinator, has provided a snapshot of Food on the Table since its beginning in 2017 –
“Food on the Table is a 100% profit-for-purpose organisation that prepares and provides meals for disadvantaged and marginalised South Australians. Our mission is simple - to provide support, inspire hope, and ensure that no one goes hungry.
Operating much like a soup kitchen, our staff and volunteers prepare over 3,500 meals each week, which are distributed through our network of charity partners, including homelessness and domestic violence shelters, emergency housing providers, and frontline outreach centres. To date, we’ve prepared and delivered more than 400,000 meals to people in need across South Australia.
Food on the Table began in 2017 as Café Outside the Square, a small café on Whitmore Square in Adelaide. Recognising a growing need in the community, the team shifted from a traditional café model to one focused on feeding those in need. In 2020, we launched Soup & Sleep, our flagship fundraising event, where participants raise vital funds by being sponsored to “sleep rough” for a night.
Now based in Hindmarsh, we operate from a commercial kitchen and a community hall that we hire out to help fund our work. As a social enterprise, Food on the Table raises money through venue hire, catering, and fundraising initiatives — all to continue our mission of feeding South Australians in need.”
