Bees, brumbies & budgies!
We love our pets, companion animals, our native wildlife and the special animals that help people with sensory disabilities such as vision and hearing loss.
There are lots of opportunities throughout South Australia to join with others who are involved with animals, whether that is caring for a pet, providing welfare and rescue services for animals, or training an animal to be a companion or guide.
Along with well known organisations such as Guide Dogs, Animal Welfare League and the RSPCA, here are a few that you might not have come across before:
Australian Marine Wildlife Research & Rescue Organisation - patrolling the Port River and rescuing dolphins and other marine wildlife
Beekeepers Society of SA - a group of people who are interested in all aspects of beekeeping
Caring Canine Companions – provide a visiting service taking dogs to residential aged care homes
Coffin Bay Brumby Preservation Society Inc. – caring for brumbies that are the descendants of ponies that were brought to the Coffin Bay area in 1839
Donkey & Mule Society of SA Inc. – an organisation for donkey and mule lovers who get together for shows, information events, weekend excursions and parties. They also rescue and rehabilitate donkeys.
North East Budgerigar Society Inc. – for people interested in budgerigar keeping, breeding and showing
SA Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Centre - attending to sick and injured birds of prey
South Australian Native Fish Association - dedicated to the keeping and propagation of native fish of Australia and New Guinea, particularly South Australian species
