Vale Housewives Association

In October 2012 the SA Division of the Housewives Association announced that they would be closing in November after 86 years of operation.
We would like to congratulate the Housewives Association on their long history and their many achievements as consumer activists and advocates for many decades before we even began to think of ourselves as consumers.
We are also proud to say that the Housewives Association, along with thousands of other community organisations, have been listed in SAcommunity and its predecessor, the Directory of Community Services, since 1976.
On page 294 of the 1976 edition of the Directory of Social Welfare Resources the Housewives Association was described as follows:

Hours Mondays to Fridays, 10a.m. to 4p.m.
Purpose Generally to express the housewives’ viewpoint and to combat profiteering tendencies. The Association is interested in all welfare work appertaining to the wellbeing of the home and family.
Services
The Association helps with problems where possible, or suggests where members may receive help.
Classes are conducted in dressmaking and cake icing.
A Social afternoon is conducted on the first Tuesday of every month at 1p.m. Bus Trips are held monthly taking members to places around the suburbs or country
