National Volunteer week is coming
National Volunteer Week 13-19 May 2013 is a celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia.
It provides an opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our communities and to say thank you to the more than 6 million Australians who volunteer.
Connecting Up will be participating with an event for our own volunteers who help us with a range of tasks that help us to provide services to the South Australian community.
If you are not currently a volunteer, why not think about offering to help in one of the following areas:
- emergency services
- first aid and health-related services
- helping children and families
- environment and conservation
- education
- animal welfare
- history and culture
- recreation and sport
- literature, science or the arts
Did you know that in South Australia there are a number of Volunteer Resource Centres that can help you to find a volunteer position?
Here are more resources that might help if you are thinking of becoming a volunteer:
- How to find volunteer opportunities
- Volunteering in State Government
- Volunteering for emergency services - eg CFS or SES
Don't forget that you can look online to find opportunities that might suit:
- Volunteering SA & NT - has a database of volunteering opportunities
- GoVolunteer - a national database of Australia-wide opportunities
- Do Something Near You - a national website inviting individuals to get involved with local community groups and initiatives. Organisations seeking volunteer involvement can also list themselves.
