Seniors in South Australia
There are lots of opportunities for older people in South Australia to be active in the community.
The Seniors Information Service (SIS) is a great starting point for anyone wanting information about active ageing, retirement and aged care services. SIS aims to maximise the independence and improve the quality of life of seniors by providing free information about the services and facilities available to them. Please note that
COTA SA is South Australia’s peak seniors organisation with a membership of 20,000 individual members and over 250 seniors organisations. Its roles include policy and advocacy, representation of seniors’ interests, programs and services and member benefits. Every October, COTA SA presents the Every Generation Festival, a month long celebration of the contribution to the community by older people. COTA also provide information about and support to senior citizens clubs around South Australia.
Aged Rights Advocacy Service Inc. (ARAS) is an independent, rights based organisation that aims to promote and protect the rights and wellbeing of older people, through the provision of information, education, support and representation. ARAS offers a free, confidential and independent service via home visits or by appointment in their offices.
ARPA Active Over 50s provides opportunities for physical, social and mental well-being and friendship through activity and regional groups around the metropolitan area, near country and Mount Gambier
Probus Clubs offer social and recreational programs and activities for retired people. There are many clubs throughout South Australia.
University of the Third Age (U3A) offers informal education for older people, covering a wide range of topics. U3A has branches in metropolitan and country regions of South Australia. Courses are low cost. There are no exams or awards. There is also U3A Online for people who are unable to attend classes due to distance or mobility.
