City of Prospect Community Grant 2018/19

The SAcommunity team would like to thank the City of Prospect for their Community Support Fund 2018/19. The grant has been used to purchase a high specification computer to support our activities and develop new services of benefit for the Prospect community.

The City of Prospect is an SAcommunity partner and jointly 'share' volunteers to update the Prospect dataset of community organisations and services within the SAcommunity directory. This ensures that their council and local community have access to current contact information on the community groups, clubs and agencies located in and working within the Prospect Area.

The computer from this grant supports a new project where SAcommunity volunteers and 'joint' council volunteers can be dedicated to specifically interview and create media articles on community groups in the Prospect area, with work already begun with articles such as these by joint volunteer Flavia. This provides the City of Prospect with an avenue to connect with and raise the profile of organisations in their area. In addition, for the community organisation it creates an opportunity to gain a widespread media presence and present information on their services in Prospect to a broader readership on new platforms throughout Prospect and South Australia.

SAcommunity supports several media channels including the SAcommunity Newsletter, Blog, Facebook and Twitter as the team are aware that community organisations often do not have the skills, time or resources to be able to promote their groups. SAcommunity is also aware how crucial these activities are for organisations, enabling them to reach new audiences to explain their role in the local community and the issues they are working to alleviate so that they can attract support and potential funding, create new networks or recruit new members and volunteers to their activities or cause. We invite City of Prospect not-for-profit organisations to contact us if they have any activities or events coming up or if they would like to introduce their organisation.

The SAcommunity team has been utilising the specifications on the new computer to create some online training modules using Camtasia video editing software to make aspects of this volunteer project sustainable. The 'Introduction to Canva' video is one example, Canva is software used to create the North Adelaide Croquet Club poster presented by Chen in the photo above. Future projects will include developing online training on interviewing community organisations and writing for social media, these videos can then accompany the current interview forms and guidelines which provide volunteers with a structure to capture the story, alongside webinars on storytelling and social media.
