Supporting International Purple Day for Epilepsy
The Epilepsy Centre - Turning Adelaide Purple Tuesday 26th March, 2019

If you look to Adelaide’s night skyline on Tuesday 26th March and wonder what all of the Purple lights are about and why everyone is wearing Purple, it’s to celebrate International Purple Day, creating  awareness about people living with epilepsy in our community.

The Epilepsy Centre will be basking in the glow as major landmarks across Adelaide turn Purple, including the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Town Hall, Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Oval, the Orb of the Adelaide Intercontinental, the Rundle Lantern, the majestic Riverbank Bridge (to name a few) - all turning their lights Purple in support of children and families living with epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Centre of SA & NThas been established and based in South Australia for 41 years and is dedicated to the welfare of children, adults and families living with and affected by epilepsy.  The Epilepsy Centre is totally self-funded and receives no state or federal government funding and they are reliant on the generosity of corporate donors, grants and the general public.

The Epilepsy Centre’s Chief Executive, Robyn Wakefield states “We hope that by bringing the condition into the public forum through community events such as The Epilepsy Centre’s Purple Day; and also encouraging open discussion about epilepsy, we can start to break down some of the myths that have created barriers for people living with epilepsy over many years.  This is important as a first step to greater research and social acceptance.” She further added “The support of the community for our fundraising events such as Purple Day is invaluable to the ongoing success of The Epilepsy Centre and our ability to fulfill an ever-increasing demand for services through our own resources. There is much confusion about different epilepsy charities, the public need to be aware of who is their South Australian Charity to ensure that their donations stay here in South Australia.”
