WOW Day - Wear Orange Wednesday to support SES Volunteers
What: WOW Day - Wear Orange Wednesday
When: 22 May 2019
How: Wear orange to thank SES Volunteers, or consider becoming a volunteer!
The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency service organisation which provides immediate assistance during emergencies and disasters. Nationwide there are 40,000 SES volunteers and 1,600 of those volunteers are spread across 67 units in South Australia.
The SES provide invaluable assistance as first responders to natural disasters however the work of the SES is not limited to assisting during times of storms and flooding. SES volunteers also provide assistance at the scene of vehicle accidents, support police in missing person searches, and undertake cliff rescues. These services are all provided by volunteers 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
This is a massive effort, and not a day goes by in Australia without the sight of an SES volunteer dressed in their orange uniform.
On Wednesday 22nd May, the colour orange will be on-trend across Australia, as people say thanks to SES volunteers nationally as a part of Wear Orange Wednesday, or WOW Day. This day dedicated to SES volunteers focuses on encouraging the community to express their gratitude in a highly visible way – by wearing the colour orange.
In particular schools and businesses are encouraged to get involved by decorating themselves, offices and classrooms in orange. Another option is to hold a WOW Day morning tea and serve orange food!
However you choose to show your thanks to SES volunteers, the main thing to remember is to take lots of photos and share them on social media with the hashtags #THANKYOUSES and #WOWDAY
Perhaps you will be inspired to volunteer yourself! To find out how you can become an SA SES volunteer go to: https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/volunteer.jsp or contact the Volunteer Recruitment Hotline 1300 364 587
