All about AMetA  - contributed by the Australian Meteorological Association
AMetA
(Australian Meteorological Association), an Adelaide based group, meets bi-monthly at the Bureau of Meteorology.  It has a diverse membership of students, retirees, people with backgrounds in meteorology or weather sensitive industries, and those with just an avid interest in weather or the history of meteorology. Guest speakers provide interesting insights into meteorology and related sciences at our meetings and an expert commentary on recent seasonal events is also included.

Two special interest groups are hosted by the Association.  The Digitisation and Imaging Unit, a small group of dedicated volunteers, is known internationally for its professional meteorological data rescuing project.  The digitised Australian (including local shipping) records from the late 1800’s to 1950’s have been used by US and European researchers to better understand long term southern hemispheric weather patterns. The recently formed Personal Weather Station Special Interest Group, provides valuable networking and information exchange opportunities for members to explore the capabilities of their own home based automatic weather stations.

Anyone with an interest in weather and climate can join AMetA for an annual subscription (2018-19) of just $15. Membership entitles you to attend all regular meetings and to receive Monana, our bimonthly newsletter which summarises recent AMETA events and the latest South Australian weather and climate.

Meetings are held at 6.00pm sharp, on the 3rd Tuesday of February, April, June, August and October at 431 King William Street.
