Knimble Fingers Craft Group says farewell
After 36 years the Knimble Fingers Craft Group closed in July 2019 and SAcommunity would like to acknowledge and appreciate their service to the community.
SAcommunity spoke to Heather Randall who has retired at 84 years old, had coordinated the group for 36 years, in conjunction with friends assisting for 25 and 26 years consecutively.
The craft group met at the Greenacres public library every fortnight to create a range of craft with activities changing each week. In addition to embracing the social aspect of craft in gathering people together and teaching them new techniques and new crafts each fortnight, the group donated their work to local charities produced through donations of wool and materials.
Handcrafted items including crochet rugs, knitted beanies, children's jumpers and toys such as teddy bears were donated to not-for-profit organisations including rest homes and Domestic Violence Services (including the Eastern Adelaide, Port Adelaide and Aboriginal Family Violence services) for use in their supported crisis and short term accommodation centres.
