Community Services Online - True Heights Dance Company

Covid-19 has meant that many community groups have had to move online. Many of these organisations have been busily upgrading behind the scenes using a variety of IT tools to continue to provide support services whilst working from home. The SAcommunity team have discovered that there are many ways to provide South Australians with opportunities to access the services they need and to participate in society, albeit remotely.

One such organisation that has found a creative way to stay 'connected' with its members at this time is the True Heights Dance Company. The organisation usually offers face-to-face classes across the state from Aldinga, Murray Bridge, Seaford and Victor Harbor. In response to Covid-19 they are utilising Facebook to move online and post small dance workshops to keep their members active and involved from home during the crisis and will soon move to Zoom.

True Heights Dance Company
True Heights Dance (THDC) specialises in hip-hop Funk Dance in a fun way to help children and teens develop social skills and interact with other students while getting fit all at the same time.

Opening their doors in 2013, the country-based dance company provides professional, educational and fun classes for all ages and levels. ''We teach dance to help people of all ages believe in themselves, in a healthy and fun environment for the community and kids of today'' explains Kristy.

"Our promise is to always share our passion for dance with our students and everyone involved with True Heights Dance, stay true to our students and parents and provide a safe and enjoyable experience, ensuring everyone is comfortable taking their new step into dance!" Kristy exclaimed.

Since the 2020 COVID outbreak sweeping the state and the world, True Heights Dance has been forced to temporarily close in line with current health regulations and to protect the health of their students. To continue to support their members and children in the communities in which they run, the company has come together to build online classes.

Coaches have been posting small Facebook workshops accessible from the comfort of your living room for members, free. This group is invite-only via email invitation. The company will also soon be moving to an online learning platform using Zoom to continue engaging with their students. Zoom meetings are members only for a small $5 out of pocket cost starting Week 1 Term 2 - 27th of April as the start of our online workshop week. It's a great example of how a service can use available technology to continue to participate with its members.

If you are interested in classes with True Heights Dance please send us your email to Kristy@trueheightsdancecompany.com. Our online platform is through Facebook, everyone has Facebook and it is a great way to stay connected during this time and we're looking forward to moving to Zoom.

The staff here at THDC wish everyone all the best and stay safe during this time.
