Community Crafts for 2021!

We delved into the rich content of SAcommunity to find some great suggestions for people who want to learn a craft or get together with others who enjoy creating things. This is some of what we've found:
 
Gallery One - a teaching studio and exhibition space at Mitcham, providing art and craft classes with day, evening and weekend sessions. You can find lots of other art classes here.
 
Embroiderers Guild of SA has branches across the State - Learn and teach techniques from traditional to contemporary embroidery..
 
Handspinners and Weavers Guild at Mile End - share skills in spinning,  weaving and crafting and maintain skills and techniques that have been passed down for generations.

Basketry SA  at Mile End.  Members use traditional methods to create practical and sculptural items. Classes where members share skills and provide instruction to newcomers.
 
Quilters Guild of SA has branches across the State - Promote the art of patchwork and quilting.
 
Japan Australia Friendship Association has classes in origami and calligraphy.
 
Broughton Art Society at Fullarton offers community-based art classes to adults with a disability or mental ill-health.

Adelaide Potters Club offers pottery classes - wheel, handbuilding, galzing and firing.
 
Murrayland Turners offers opportunities for people to develop traditional woodworking skills, build on existing ones and contribute towards their life-long learning.

Mount Gambier Men's Shed - A meeting place for men who want to share a morning with other fellas, make things from wood or steel, fix bikes; open to inventive ideas.  There are lots of other men's sheds across the State too.
 
Encounter Lacemakers - Victor Harbor.  Share skills and knowledge of techinque in lacemaking crafts, including bobbin, crochet, tatting filet and knitted lace.  The Australian Lace Guild has branches across the State. 
 
Adelaide Community Bicycle Workshop repair and rfecycle bicycles for sale or donation to people in need.
 
There are plenty of other opportunities to learn craft skills and attend classes. Most community centres and branches of the Country Women's Association offer a variety of arts and crafts sessions.  
 
TAFE SA and WEA Adult Learning offer short courses and certificate courses so you can learn for pleasure or to gain a qualification.
 
University of the Third Age (U3A) has branches around the metropolitan area and in the country, some offering arts and crafts courses.
 
Have you heard of Etsy? It's an online community for selling and buying handmade items and a great place to get ideas and inspiration.
 
For those who are interested in practicing professionally, contact Craftsouth: Centre for Contemporary Craft & Design, the peak industry organisation in South Australia for craft, design and visual art practitioners.
