Welcome to the Prospect Pétanque Club
What are you doing on Saturday afternoon?
Like to meet some new people and learn a new game? The Prospect Pétanque Club welcomes you
Pétanque has a broad appeal as a game of skill enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels, originating from a wide-range of boules-type games similar to lawn bowls or bocce (Italy), it's played on sand or gravel, using steel balls (boules).
Our SAcommunity Team have been looking forward to learning about this popular game since their 'Come and Try' display at the Prospect Spring Fair. Fortunately we had a wonderful opportunity to talk to Prospect Pétanque Club secretary Kym Wilson and hear more about Pétanque from this warm and welcoming club.
Prospect Pétanque Club
The game of pétanque was developed in the south of France in 1910, and is today practiced in many nations across the world. As an outdoors activity, pétanque is played on a marked gravel surface (piste), with the aim of throwing three metal balls (boules) as close to a small target jack (cochonnet) as possible. The game can be played by people of all ages, either socially or competitively at local, state and national levels depending on levels of interest and skill. State and National competitions are organised by the SA Pétanque League (SAPL and the National Federation (PFA) respectively.
Located in a serene and leafy setting, members enjoy the well maintained playing areas and the social amenities of the clubroom and licensed bar. Casual visitors are always made welcome and club members are happy to introduce new players to the game. Varied opportunities for play and practice are offered: Saturday afternoon (2:30pm onwards) and Wednesday evening (6:30pm onwards). Come and join us.
