South Australians are urged to show their flower power this August and support Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Appeal.

The Daffodil Day Appeal will take place throughout August, culminating in Daffodil Day on Friday 27 August 2021.

2021 marks thirty-five years of Daffodil Day, with all funds raised supporting vital cancer research.

Over the past five years Cancer Council and its research partners have invested more than $250 million in world-class cancer research. In South Australia, Cancer Council SA partners with SA Health, SAHMRI Flinders University, the University of Adelaide and UniSA to fund the Cancer Council’s Beat Cancer Project, a unique collaboration which funds the state’s best and brightest cancer researchers to work toward the next cancer breakthrough.

Thanks to investment in research over many years, significant advancements have been made in cancer prevention, screening and treatment—helping to increase survival rates from 49 per cent in the 1980s to 69 per cent today. Currently, 28 South Australians are diagnosed with cancer every day.

Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size urged the community to show their flower power this Daffodil Day Appeal to support vital cancer research.

“The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for everyone affected by cancer,” he said.

“Money raised this Daffodil Day will give more than hope to people affected by cancer, it will fund vital cancer research that is saving lives every day.

“Every person who donates, volunteers or buys daffodils this August will be helping us to continue investing in life-saving cancer research programs, giving hope for better treatments and early detection methods and ultimately, leading us towards a cancer free future."
