The art and skill of effective public speaking brings a myriad of benefits to the speaker. The ability to effectively 'inform, persuade, instruct or entertain' is a valuable life tool and can help with leadership, career advancement or in simply conveying your message clearly in a day-to-day setting.

SAcommunity lists a number of the community service groups which assist people become better Public Speakers, and to develop Leadership Skills. One such group is Toastmasters International, the not-for-profit organisation is focussed on communication and leadership development with a network of clubs across the world. Many of these branches are in South Australia so it is easy to find and join a club near you. 

Recently, the SAcommunity Team had the opportunity to visit North Adelaide Toastmasters Club as guests, hear from some of their amazing speakers and find out more about the club. 
 
North Adelaide Toastmasters
At North Adelaide Toastmasters you will improve your speaking skills by speaking to groups, and being evaluated and mentored in a supportive environment.

At each meeting you will have the opportunity to either practice giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, offering constructive evaluation, conducting meetings, and taking on another speaking or leadership role.

  • Think on your feet and speak at short notice on a wide variety of topics;
  • Communicate effectively using eye contact, hand gestures and body language;
  • Prepare and deliver speeches using manuals with specific objectives;
  • Enjoy fellowship and support from fellow members;
  • Participate in and run meetings efficiently;
  • Become the best communicator you can; and
  • Embrace your potential as a leader
