LEGACY WEEK 2022 - Buy a badge this Legacy week and support local families of veterans

The Legacy Club South Australia & Broken Hill Inc is calling upon the local community to buy a badge this Legacy Week - Sunday 28 August to Saturday 3 September 2022.

For almost a century, Legacy has kept the promise to thousands of veterans’ families - helping provide financial and social support during times of hardship and grief.

For the last two years, COVID-19 and lockdowns have created difficulties for Legacy Week volunteers to fundraise in the community. Our club is hoping that face-to-face fundraising this year will help increase donations that help provide support and services for some of the most vulnerable in the community.

The Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill currently looks after over 3,500 veterans’ families, providing services like home-care visits, day trips, education support and holiday camps for Legacy Youth. President Sue Moorhead said “Legacy has never been more relevant and important to the families’ who need our help right now. Please help us to help them”.

The Legacy Week Appeal Breakfast https://www.adelaidelegacy.org.au/Event/breakfast marks the beginning of an exciting week, with our Patron, Her Excellency Frances Adamson AC, The Governor of South Australia, coming along to officially launch Legacy Week. A key feature of the breakfast is our Panel Session on ‘The Importance of supporting Veterans’ Families’ highlighting some powerful messages through lived experience from:

• Gwen Cherne, Veteran Family Advocate Commissioner
• Ms Leah Kemp, Legacy Widow
• Miss Catherine Heylen, Legacy Youth Ambassador

Legacy will be fundraising in Gawler Place, Rundle Mall on Friday 2 September to highlight Legacy Badge Day with the Australian Defence Force personnel, Legacy Bear Mascots, and poppy wall feature; hand knitted poppies by our beneficiaries, local Widows clubs, fundraising knitting groups and Legacy volunteers.

The Australian Army Band will be performing in Rundle Mall on Saturday 3 September between 12-2pm with Legacy fundraisers and the Legacy Bear Mascots.

If you would like to support Legacy Week and their fundraising appeal, highlighting the important work Legacy Australia does, visit www.legacy.com.au for more information.
