The Bathukamma Celebrations were recognised as a state festival by the Telangana government. Over the years, it has become a symbol of the local culture and identity.

It is celebrated annually as per Sathavahana calendar, starting Mahalaya Amavasya till Durgashtami. This is equivalent to 9 days in September/ October of Gregorian calendar.
