Lions Clubs
Lions Clubs have been established for over 75 years. Most of the work done by the club is for the community, establishing and managing a range of projects, activities, foundations, and initiatives. Just in the last year, the Lions Clubs throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea raised over $28 million to fund towards medical research, health care, assisting adults and children with disabilities, emergency response and more. The Lions clubs’ impact continues to grow as they look to provide support to a wide variety of community needs.
The Waikerie Christmas Fair
One of these wonderful events hosted is the Waikerie Lions Christmas Pageant. For the first time in 3 years, the Christmas fair returns to Waikerie! The Lions Club receives a grant from the District Council of Loxton Waikerie to put the event together. This is an event that includes parade, float clowns, magicians, jumping castles and more! It’s a fun time and a great way to spend time with family. It gives you a chance to ease into the Christmas spirit ahead of the special day.

We spoke with Henry Stendara, the Secretary of the Lions Club of Waikerie, who mentioned that he is excited to coordinate this event once again. Mr. Stendara says that, “The event did not go through in the past few years due to the COVID restrictions. We are glad that we can put it on again for the community. Kids have a lot of fun and it is a great family environment for everybody. Also, it gave a chance to local vendors to showcase their products.” Mr. Stendara also mentioned that they have received great support from the community and that when they went to promote the event at schools, the kids were really excited that it is all happening again.
