Luhrs Cottage was built of mud & straw with the framework of hand-adzed redgum, around 1846 by Johann Heinrich Luhrs. The small 4 roomed cottage was home to Johann and his wife Anna and six children. Out the back you will find the 'school room' including the cellar. The detached room was built around 1870 as a kitchen and has a large bake oven at the back of the fireplace. The 'school room' holds a large collection of early German teaching aids along with the history of the Luhrs family. Take a walk to see the hauschen (little house) dunny or outhouse. In the machinery shed you will find an original German wagon.
