The goals of the squadron are to help promote safe boating on the coastal waters of the Fleurieu Peninsula, Lower Murray and Coorong areas of South Australia and to provide assistance to boats, their crews and passengers and other water users.

- Voluntary rescue service to boating public, covering area from Cape Jervis to the Coorong (including eastern end of Kangaroo Island), Murray Mouth, Lake Alexandrina, Lake Albert and the Coorong
- Courses in navigation, radio and seamanship
