Parent Body

Parent body
Overview: Field Definition and Scope
The parent body refers to the larger organisation that the service is a part of, is created or controlled by, coordinates or otherwise subscribes to, includes affiliations or organisations which are related in some way.

Data Conventions & Standards
MARC 21 Format for Community Information Data
defines conventions for community information records and contains descriptions of the data elements and examples.

In this case:
MARC 21 Community Information 572 - Affiliation and Other Relationships Note

For example:
A Probus Club such as Probus Club - Glenelg runs independently but subscribes to the principles of the parent Probus South Pacific. In this case, their club insurance is also paid to the parent body Probus South Pacific.

Another example is a netball club, here Bridgewater Netball Club belongs to a larger coordinating body such as Hills Netball Association, which belongs to a peak body such as Netball SA.

Database editor entry - Add the Parent Body name and the Parent Body URL in the 'Child' listing from SAcommunity.

Parent Body URL in SAcommunity

For example in the 'Child' listing Bridgewater Netball Club listing we add the parent body name Hills Netball Association and the SAcommunity link.
Copy the URL (only copying the URL and directory ID number https://sacommunity.org/org/198485 to create a persistent link (otherwise any name changes create a bad link) and paste this into the Parent Body URL of the child.

In addition, the Parent body contains the 'Child' branches in the Branch Address field, all of whom link to their associated page in SAcommunity.

This enables club structure and relevant associations to be organised and understood, it also allows parent bodies to ensure that affiliated clubs are connected and listed, with child clubs able to easily identify their governing, coordinating or affiliated parent bodies for the public.
