National Reconciliation Week Breakfast
Reconciliation South Australia has today announced the state’s flagship National Reconciliation Week event, the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast, taking place this year on National Sorry Day, which will be commemorated at the event. While the event hosts almost 2,000 people, it sells out every year, often in a matter of days. This year the event boasts a collection of local talent as well as speeches made by important figureheads who will speak on the topics of National Sorry Day, Reconciliation in the state of South Australia, and the Referendum on a Voice to Parliament, due to take place this October.

National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June – is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The 2023 National Reconciliation Week theme is Be a Voice for Generations. It encourages all Australian's to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

Every year on 26 May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation.

On the 2023 National Reconciliation Week Breakfast, Reconciliation SA Co-Chair Jeremy Johncock says, "This NRW we celebrate the theme of ‘Voice for Generations’. This gives us the opportunity to recognise the efforts of generations before us who fought for justice in Australia and unite in the present to address the unresolved issues of reconciliation for future generations. With around 2,000 people expected to be in attendance, this year’s breakfast is shaping up to be one of our biggest ever. This shows us there is a genuine commitment by individuals, communities, and corporate Australia to elevate Reconciliation in this country.”

The event will be hosted by Western Arrente, Walpiri and Pitjantjatjara man Marcellus Enalanga. Marcellus is a TV Presenter, Public Speaker and Filmmaker. The former Channel Nine South Australian Young Achiever of the Year and Port Pirie resident is currently undertaking a Journalism Cadetship at SBS News.

Guests will be treated on the day to performances by Dusty Feet Mob, Corey Theatre & Nancy Bates and more to be announced shortly.

Key speakers at the event will be South Australian Attorney General Kyam Maher MLC, South Australia's Commissioner for First Nations Voice Dale Agius, Reconciliation Australia’s CEO Karen Mundine as well as Reconciliation SA's Co-Chairs Helen Connolly and Jeremy Johncock.
