Personal Biography
Shiye is a first-year student currently studying the Master of AI & Machine Learning at the University of Adelaide graduating in August 2024. With a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Fuzhou University, she has interned as a structural drafter at a design institute in 2020 and as a safety officer at a construction site in 2022. Her exposure to Intelligent Construction kindled an interest in machine learning, and ultimately led her to choose a career pathway which provides a deeper exploration of this field.
She is volunteering within SAcommunity's Data Analytics Team to gain more practical work experience and to understand how data is applied in the real world. Her aims in joining the program are to attain new skills in Power BI, an interactive data visualization software product, understand data analytic work processes in a local workplace, and to have the opportunity to apply her own academic knowledge of big data, to make it genuinely valuable in assisting the community. Through volunteering she also seeks to forge new connections, participate in industry events, and expand her network.
In the future, Shiye plans to work in the industrial sector, combining her background in Civil Engineering with her knowledge of Machine Learning, to more effectively value and employ big data. Allowing organisations to gain insights, identify opportunites, improve performance, operations and services, and to make informed decisions.
Community Services in Councils Project
Shiye has selected the Barossa Council for her council reports, a dataset of approximately 404 community services operating in the area over 2021-2022. Following up on previous reports by Hang Zhang and Renu Bala, and can be found >>here. Council stakeholders are contacted by phone or email with an introduction to the SAcommunity service and presentation of the data and information visualization reports created on services for their area.
Training and Development - Telephone Techniques
Telephone techniques assist Data Analytics Team members with understanding more about the directory and data collection methods, in data cleaning and updating their individual dataset information, and, in finally introducing and presenting their data reports to council stakeholders.
Thank you Shiye!
