Mapping the family is a City of Unley Community Impact Program offering older people and their family of choice (whoever they identify as family) the chance to undertake a free creative program in which they will produce art, poetry and memory books.

Participants will take part in ten free workshops with James Parker, a professional artist, and published poet Amelia Walker, where they will produce their memory books. If they desire, they will then have the opportunity to exhibit their work through the Hughes Gallery in November.

“As well as the therapeutic and interpersonal benefits of the creative activities and  Memory Books themselves, a key aim of [the] project is to challenge stereotypes about growing older and to promote positive representations of growing older that reflect the broad ranges of experiences that people from all cultures and walks of life have.”

         – Amelia Walker, Project Facilitator.

The project is currently seeking participants, and welcomes all applications, regardless of residency location. Exhibition is optional, and not a requirement for participating in the program. To apply, or for more information, please email Amelia Walker at poetryisdangerous@gmail.com and James Parker, arty@jameswparker.com.au .

Application Deadline is March 15th 2022.
